Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements for 1st grade and up:
Cyprus considers the whole child, and all information provided is considered for an admission decision. Cyprus is designed for students who can learn at a faster pace or have achieved beyond the limits of a typical school situation. If  your  child fits into this category, Cyprus is most likely a good educational fit.

1. IQ testing:  Although most of our students have scored over the 98th percentile on IQ tests, we prefer that students test over the 90th percentile and will consider students who test at or over the 85th percentile in at least one subject or overall.  Because of our ability-based classes, our school is able to accommodate, teach, and challenge all students who can not be academically served by a typical public or private or gifted school curriculum due to the slow pace or challenge level.  Students who score high do best at Cyprus, and Cyprus challenges students who score well over the 99.9th percentile.   If you have not had your child tested for their abilities,  Cyprus will administer the NNAT.

2. Anecdotal information and recommendations from parents, previous teachers and/or other adults who work closely with the student.

3. Student visit day: We ask that each child visit our school for the day.

4. Cyprus assessment: We conduct an in-house assessment of your child's academic achievement and potential pacing during assessment week or on their visit day.

5.  Achievement Testing:  Cyprus may administer a nationally standardized achievement test to assist in determining a student's level of achievement.

  • Students must be able to count accurately to 20 and recognize numbers from 1 - 10
