STEM Classes
RocketLUNCH
Ages 5 - Adult
Levels: Students under 9y and those who do not have experience using sharp tools should enroll with an adult partner (free of charge).
Cyprus Academy's STEM department, CypruDyne, has offered their now world-famous water rocketry STEM course for many years in the past. This year, Dr. Michael Vogt, professional research scientist from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories, is taking the course online culminating in a live RocketLUNCH on a Saturday utilizing social distancing. We want all ages - including past RocketLUNCH alum to participate! Students who live at a distance can join the live RocketLUNCH remotely.
Participants will learn how to design and build water rockets. Experienced builders will expand upon their knowledge and skills. In the past we hurled our vessels up over 800 ft, but with our 5th anniversary course, we are going to attempt to go even higher. This will take designing and building newer, larger, and much higher-flying rockets than ever before! All the skills needed will be taught in class. Participants will be given a list of materials they will need to obtain prior to the class.
4-week session: 4 Fridays from 3:00-5:00 beginning June 12, RocketLUNCH on Saturday, July 4th!
Expect the following cost for materials: $20-$25 per team
Tuition: $250 for an Adult/Child team; $50 for each sibling participant in the same home.

Students should expect the homework associated with one chapter each week (an average of one hour of homework for every hour of class time.) There will be a chapter test assigned each weekend that is due before class on Mondays. Students will receive a certificate of completion with a letter grade and a score report from a standardized, end-of-year subject test.

Our recommendation is that students should not be younger than 8 for Algebra 1, 8-9 for Geometry, and 9-10 for Algebra 2. However, we will make exceptions if there is strong parental support and a highly motivated, profoundly gifted student.
4. It is recommended that students who are not ready for this work-load take these classes at the recommended pace. We also offer 1-1 goal-oriented classes that will move at the pace desired.
We suggest that students enroll in only one accelerated class at a time but will not prevent a student from enrolling in Geometry and Algebra 2 concurrently as long as they meet the prerequisites.
These classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for 1.5 hours.
